✦ About the Rhyme ✦

Pudding and Pie

“Georgie Porgie” first appeared in print in the 1800s, though versions of it were probably chanted earlier. Like many nursery rhymes, it is short, bouncy, and easy to remember.

Some people have guessed that Georgie was a real person, perhaps a king or a courtier, but there is no proof. Most likely he is just a cheeky boy whose name happens to rhyme with “porgie.”
